A LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE

Marva Jeanne Pitt Riley, a lifelong teacher and an alumna of North Carolina Central University, died on Sunday, June 5, 2016. Marva taught elementary school in New York City, until failing health ended her formal career. But she continued to teach not only her children, but neighborhood children on the front porch or in the living room of her family home in Tarboro, N.C. Her daughter, Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley, has established the Marva Jeanne Pitt Riley Endowed Scholarship in her honor to train future teachers.
